Thai Lottery Predictions 1st July 2011

Given that there is a general election in Thailand on Sunday 3rd July I have decided to base my Thai lottery predictions for 1st July 2011 around the event. Let me explain why.

When political parties register for the election in Thailand each party draws a number from a lottery type machine containing coloured balls that are drawn by the party leader.  Each ball is in two half’s which when unscrewed by the party leader reveal a number.  This number starting at 1 and progressing upwards(depending on the number of parties submitting to registration) in this case 30 is then used to identify candidates and their party on posters and ballot papers.

This year the outgoing government(Democrats) have drawn number 10 and the main opposition force, the Pheu Thai Party(Red Shirts) have drawn number 1 which incidentally is considered to be a lucky number in Thailand.

Now if you don’t believe me about the significance of the numbers to Thais here’s what some of the participants told to the Nation newspaper, in an editorial called “Parties go Nuts About Numbers”:

The Pheu Thai Party won a psychological victory as it drew number one and will be in the top spot on the ballot paper.

The Chart Thai Pattana Party needed a long explanation to make number 21 sound good. The party’s chief advisor Banharn Silapa-archa said the number 21 was a lucky number for the party. According to a Chinese philosophical text the number one means ‘Yin’ while two means ‘Yang’. “When Yin and Yang come together it is very powerful,” he said.

The Bhum Jai Thai Party’s explanation for number 16 was linked with the day of the lottery. Thailand holds lottery draws every first and 16th day of the month.

“For people at the grassroots, 16 is a lucky number since it is the day they have the chance to win the lottery,” said party spokesman Supachai Jaisamut. “If you vote for number 16, you don’t need to wait for the lottery result on the day of the 16th anymore.”

Make of it what you will but perhaps 01, 10, 21 and 16 are worth considering. I guess that predicting the Thai lottery results for the 1st July will be just as hard as predicting the outcome of the general election.

Good luck whatever you choose.
