Playing the Thai Lottery

Example of Thai Lottery TicketPlaying the Thai lottery is easy although since it is currently  paper based(there are plans to make it electronic)  you have to purchase a ticket from an official agent or vendor in Thailand. Usually the Thai Lottery is drawn twice a month on the 1st and 16th day. You will find vendors and agents all across Thailand in every town and village.

Thai Lottery Tickets.

Each ticket costs 80 Baht but is confusingly split into two parts which show a price of 40 Baht each.  The two half’s of the ticket show the same number top and bottom. You cannot split the tickets but if you win you get double the first prize money(see below). Agents(sellers) add a fee so you can pay as much as 120 Baht for your ticket.

Each Thai Lottery ticket has a unique number consisting of 6 single digits using the figures 0-9.

Prize Collection.

If you win a prize playing the Thai Lottery you have to go to the Government Lottery Office to collect it in the form of a cheque. However, if the prize is less than 20,000 Baht, you can go to a local agent and he/she will give the money to you in cash. There is tax on your winnings which is currently 0.5%. Local agents are also entitled to charge you a fee if you go to them to collect your winnings which will cost you about 2% of your winnings.
